Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree of English literature. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell became the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
